Milan coach Stefano Pioli is facing a conundrum ahead of the Salernitana match on January 4, as Olivier Giroud, Divock Origi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all out of action.

The Rossoneri have been working in Dubai and fly back to Italy tomorrow, as preparations gear up for the return of Serie A football.

Pioli may well find himself with no available strikers, because Giroud and Theo Hernandez are only expected back from their World Cup campaign with France on December 30.

They’ll have hardly any training sessions with the squad and it is unlikely they’ll be risked for the encounter with Salernitana.

Origi picked up yet another injury during training and is struggling for fitness, while Ibrahimovic is not expected back for another few weeks after knee surgery in May.

There are a few alternatives for Pioli to consider, including the risk of 18-year-old Marko Lazetic leading the front line, but he has only one Serie A appearance for eight minutes under his belt.

Ante Rebic has been tested as a makeshift centre-forward before, but he too is not in the best physical shape.

Another potential candidate to start upfront is Charles De Ketelaere, who after all was very prolific in that role when playing for Club Brugge last season.

He has found it difficult to flourish in a trequartista position or wide in support of the striker, so this could be a way of getting him nearer the goal and boosting his confidence.
