Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola calls former Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri “one of the absolute best”.

The two sides met in the Champions League earlier this season, with each man affirming his respect for the other on numerous occasions.

They could be set to cross swords in the Premier League next year, as Sarri appears to be close to joining Chelsea.

“He’s one of the absolute best,” Guardiola told RMC Sport.

“We judge people on what they’ve won, but the football played by Napoli this season has been out of this world. He did very well, seeing Napoli play is a spectacle.

“If he comes to the Premier League it’d be a pleasure to face him.”

Sarri didn’t win the Scudetto though, with Juventus beating Napoli to the punch in each of his three seasons.

“Winning is always hard and Juventus show their strength every year. It’s always hard to win, you always have to do things well and this year they beat one of the strongest teams in the world in Napoli.

“Max Allegri? I’ve never been on the bench with him, but if you win four Scudetti in a row that means you’re very good.

“What did Napoli lack? Nothing, sometimes it’s the small details which make the difference. For example, if Juventus had lost to Inter at San Siro then probably Napoli would have won.

“It's also a matter of luck, for example I was lucky to win thanks to very strong teams and very strong clubs and in the end that makes our job easier.”

The Spaniard has previously described Leonardo Bonucci as one of his favourite players, and he could leave Milan this summer…

“There are good players in every league,” Guardiola shrugged.

“Bonucci is tied to Milan, I don’t want to answer questions about the transfer market.”
