Milan are reeling after it emerged that Alexandre Pato will be out for six weeks and now won't be back until 2011.

It was initially thought that the Brazil international striker faced just 14 days on the sidelines, but a follow up scan shows his injury is much more severe.

Pato has a second-degree tear to his left thigh muscle and although he could be back for Milan's trip to Roma on December 19, it appears unlikely the medical staff will risk him.

Milan have something of a crisis up front, as Pippo Inzaghi was also ruled out for the long-term after suffering a serious knee injury.

The club's medical staff has intimated that he is now considering surgery.
