Roma’s Javier Pastore is ready to play in a slightly different role under Eusebio Di Francesco, having recently signed from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine has predominantly played in attacking midfield roles over the course of his career.

However, the 29-year-old revealed his new Coach has slightly different intentions and plans to give him more defensive responsibilities.

“Roma play 4-3-3. When I signed with Roma I spoke to Di Francesco and he was very clear,” Pastore responded when asked if he would play in the ‘trequartista’ role for the Giallorossi.

“He told me he was going to play 4-3-3and, if I accepted the offer, I would play in the midfield three and help with the defensive phase as well.

“I agreed to it, I know I can do it. I often did it in Paris.”

Pastore, who was speaking to Il Romanista, was asked whether he had watched Roma’s famous Champions League comeback against Barcelona last season – where the Giallorossi won 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to overturn a 4-1 first-leg deficit.

“I watched it at home in Paris, it was very exciting to see a team like Roma fight in that way and get that result.

“For anyone facing Barcelona, you know you have to be 100 per cent focused and that you can concede a goal at any moment.

“It is a match that is now in the history of the Champions League.”
