Here’s what to watch out for in Week 2 of Serie A.

Spalletti’s return to Roma

For a man who took Roma to their record points total, scoring a record number of goals along the way, Spalletti left the Giallorossi with a surprising amount of opprobrium ringing in his ears.

Spalletti’s return to Roma

For a man who took Roma to their record points total, scoring a record number of goals along the way, Spalletti left the Giallorossi with a surprising amount of opprobrium ringing in his ears.

The Coach had reportedly fallen out with club legend Francesco Totti, with many blaming him for Er Pupone’s retirement.

In addition, a record-breaking Serie A campaign was soured somewhat by Coppa Italia defeat to city rivals Lazio and a Europa League exit to Lyon.

This weekend the Tuscan tactician takes his Inter side to the Olimpico, and he’s sure to get a hostile reception.

Early relegation six-pointer

It may be early to talk about relegation showdowns, with only one round of matches completed, but Verona’s trip to Crotone could be crucial come the end of the season.

The Butei are newly promoted, and looking to atone for a disastrous Serie A campaign in 2015-16.

Meanwhile the hosts completed the great escape last season, prompting Coach Davide Nicola to cycle all the way to Turin.

Neither side is likely to trouble the top half of the table, so it’s imperative to get three points on the board against a likely relegation rival.

Nikola Kalinic’s Milan debut

Nikola Kalinic finally completed his move to Milan this week, and could make his debut against Cagliari on Sunday night.

The Croatian may have to start his Rossoneri career from the bench, however, given the impressive form of youngster Patrick Cutrone.

Kalinic has been described by CEO Marco Fassone as the final part of the Diavolo jigsaw, so fans will be keen to see how he fits into Coach Vincenzo Montella’s schemes.

Napoli face their bogey team

There was only one team Napoli failed to take a single point from last season, as they amassed a club record total of 86.

It wasn’t Juventus, Roma or Inter, but Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta, who won both matches with the Partenopei last season.

With the Neapolitans starting this season with the goal of winning the Scudetto, they can’t afford to make those kind of slips this season, so the Orobici’s visit to the San Paolo is a great early barometer of their chances this season.

The visitors have lost some players over the summer, but Gasperini going up against Maurizio Sarri is a battle between two of Serie A’s wiliest Coaches.

Will Juventus unleash the new signings?

Juventus have signed the likes of Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi and Blaise Matuidi this summer, but they started Week 1 without any new signings in the team.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri stuck with his 4-2-3-1 shape, as well as the players which secured the double and reached the Champions League final last season.

Will the new signings play at Genoa?

With Claudio Marchisio out, Matuidi could come into midfield while Douglas Costa looked impressive in pre-season and could replace Cuadrado.
