Andre Onana explained why Inter deserve more respect in the Champions League, pointing to their work against Barcelona this season.

The Nerazzurri finished second in a Champions League group containing Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen, booking their spot in the knock-out stages.

In the Round of 16, Simone Inzaghi’s side edged out a tense 1-0 aggregate win over Porto, putting them in the quarter-finals, where they’ll face Benfica.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Onana first discussed the difficult month ahead of Inter and what they need to do.

“We must always play without fear. If there is fear, better not to take to the pitch at all. We have a difficult month ahead of us, but we prepare every day to play matches like those against Juventus and Benfica.

“I am convinced that if we work in the right way, it will be a month full of satisfaction.”

He touched on the fact that he’s only conceded 23 goals in 28 games across all competitions this season.

“It means that the defence is doing very well. A goalkeeper can also save a lot, but if you don’t pass, the squad has no value. When you don’t concede goals it’s a collective effort, from the coach to the striker plus everyone on the bench.

“We are all here to become Inter and for me it is a great honour to be the goalkeeper of this top club.”

Finally, Onana explained why he thinks Inter deserve more respect on the European stage.

“We deserve more respect in Europe, as we sent Barcelona to the Europa League and faced a complicated group.

“We have shown that we are a strong team. No matter what happens in the next round, we will face Benfica to win. I want to win everything.”

Whilst Inter have done well in the Champions League this season, they’ve looked inconsistent in Serie A, losing to teams like Bologna, Spezia and Empoli. The team sit third in the Serie A table, just three points ahead of fifth place Roma.
