On this day 36 years ago, former Roma hero Roberto Pruzzo bagged his 100th Serie A goal, against Avellino at the Stadio Partenio.

Giallorossi goalkeeper Franco Tancredi knocked it forward and Pruzzo anticipated the through ball, stormed passed the dizzy defence and smashed it in the top corner with a one-touch finish from the edge of the area.

Pruzzo gave Roma the lead and could celebrate his 100th in Serie A and 73rd in the Giallorossi shirt, before birthday boy Toninho Cerezo scored and sent the visitors ahead  at half time.

Ramon Diaz and Gian Pietro Tagliaferri made it 2-2, the latter scoring in stoppage time to make sure Avellino shared the spoils in a season where Roma ended second in Serie A, two points behind Juventus, and runners-up in the European Cup after losing on penalties to Liverpool.

Pruzzo scored 15 goals across all competitions in 1983-84 and helped Roma lift the Coppa Italia, when an own goal by Hellas Verona defender Mauro Ferroni decided the outcome.

The 65-year-old was capped six times by Italy during his career that included spells at Genoa and Fiorentina, but has found his place in the history books at Roma as second only to Francesco Totti with his 106 goals in Serie A.

Edin Dzeko is number three on the list and the only still playing among the six who have scored more than 100 goals for Roma.
