As the Frenchman struggled to catch up, Christian Panucci came across to try and shut the youngster down.

With a drop of his shoulder, Cassano squeezed in between the two Inter defenders before cooly striking the ball past Angelo Peruzzi.

The striker became known as one of the best young talents in Serie A, and moved to Roma in the summer of 2001 for 60 billion lire [around €30m] which at the time made him the world’s most expensive teenager.

However, despite playing for the Giallorossi, Real Madrid, Milan and Inter; Cassano never truly fulfilled his potential, and it appears he has retired after walking out on Verona in pre-season.
