Bayern Munich have confirmed that Milan have signed Mark Van Bommel.

Milan had initially ruled out a move for the Holland international partly on account of his age, but a series of injuries to their midfielders has brought about a rethink.

Adriano Galliani and Ariedo Braida apparently travelled to Munich yesterday to hold talks with Van Bommel who is being represented by Mino Raiola, the agent who brokered Zlatan Ibrahimovic's switch from Barcelona to Milan in the summer.

Van Bommel's contract in Germany was due to expire in six months' time and Bayern intend to pursue alternatives rather than extend the 33-year-old's existing deal.

"I leave Bayern with a heavy heart but with my head held high," he said.

Initial reports claim Van Bommel's contract is only until the end of this season and expires on June 30, 2011.

The veteran midfielder is the third new arrival at Milanello this winter after Antonio Cassano and Urby Emanuelson.
