Diego Milito, Jose Mourinho and Toto Di Natale picked up the most prestigious awards at the Oscar del Calcio in Milan last night.

The annual awards ceremony has a special resonance in the Italian game because each prize is voted for by the players.

It was a particularly proud night for Milito who was crowned Best Foreign Player, Serie A Player of the Year and Best Bomber.

The Argentine striker had been criminally overlooked in the voting for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, so there was a sense of justice about last night's award.

Milito's success was the icing on the cake for Inter. The Italian champions were voted Team of the Year and scooped four other major honours.

Julio Cesar was named Best Goalkeeper for the second time, Walter Samuel shared the Best Defender award with Giorgio Chiellini and Douglas Maicon's strike against Juventus was recognised as the Goal of the Year.

Unsurprisingly Jose Mourinho was hailed as Best Coach after last year's treble with Inter.

In a video message, he claimed that his time in Italy had made him a better tactician.

It was an emotional evening for Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale too.

He had two speeches to make after being voted Italian Player of the Year and Capocannoniere.

Palermo starlet Javier Pastore deservedly won the gong for Best Young Player.

But Napoli striker Edinson Cavani was seen as the most popular of all nominees after coming out top in a fans' poll.
