Milan have officially announced a one-year contract extension for French defender Philippe Mexes.

The former Roma man had been expected to leave the Rossoneri on a free transfer this summer, with reports this morning suggesting that he was not part of Sinisa Mihajlovic’s plans.

However, in a short statement on their official website, the Diavolo have confirmed that Mexes will stay at San Siro for another year.

“AC Milan announces that Philippe Mexes has extended his contract until 30 June 2016.”

The 33-year-old made 20 Serie A appearances last season, receiving nine yellow cards and one red, an attack of Stefano Mauri of Lazio which saw him banned for four matches.
