Atalanta released a statement confirming it is an 18-month loan with option to buy.

“A genuine representative of the Bergamo spirit, Mattia returns to the Nerazzurri jersey after two years with the objective of writing more marvellous pages in his Atalanta story. Welcome home, Mattia!”

It’s reported to be a free loan with option to buy for €15m, giving Milan a percentage on any future transfer.

Bergamo native Caldara had moved to Milan via Juventus in the summer of 2018, but made only two appearances for them in all competition due to two serious injuries.
