Carlo Ancelotti considers Inter, Roma and the Azzurri for a possible return to Italy, while praising Marco Verratti as 'heir' to Andrea Pirlo.

Having spent the last six years abroad, the three-times Champions League winner is open to the possibility of a return to his home country, but there is one club he feels he must rule out.

“I'd have trouble joining Inter because of my time with Milan,” he said to Radio Anch'io Sport. “I am loyal to my past, even though as a child I used to support the Nerazzurri.

“Roma? Everything can happen, I could even quit coaching someday,” he joked.

“As for the Azzurri, that'll be a prospect for the future. Right now I want to spend all of my time on the pitch and live my day-to-day together with the players.

“The national team, in the meantime, is in excellent hands.”

The 55-year-old then went on to discuss one of Italy's brightest prospects, Marco Verratti.

“He is the most suited player to replace Andrea [Pirlo]. At his age he demonstrates enormous character and a lot of skill.

“They have different characteristics, because Verratti plays within a shorter range, but he can be the natural heir to Pirlo.”

Ancelotti then went on to discuss his former club and the crisis they are in.

“I don't think the club was wrong when they chose [Coach Filippo] Inzaghi. He is part of the Rossoneri history.

“Milan were happy to take a risk. Inzaghi had no experience, but then again no-one has that when they start out.

“Pippo did the right thing in taking the job. I hope the club confirms him, he's already beginning to show some good things.

“I haven't spoken with [President Silvio] Berlusconi recently. I don't know about the club's sale, but the transaction would only be financial, as Berlusconi will be tied to the club forever.

“He'll remain a Rossonero supporter even if he sells the club.”

Finally, Ancelotti had some words on Juventus and their dominant role in Italian football.

“It wasn't easy for [Coach Max] Allegri to replace [Antonio] Conte, but he has performed brilliantly this season. Conte did a great job, but Allegri deserves credit for his achievements this year.”
