Newcastle United have reportedly emerged to provide competition to Juventus for outgoing Atalanta forward Luis Muriel.

La Dea are ready to sell the 31-year-old Colombian this summer in order to cash in before his contract expires with the club next year. Despite Atalanta’s drop in form last season, Muriel still impressed individually as he went on to net nine goals and provide nine assists in 27 Serie A appearances.

As reported by TMW, Newcastle have set their sights on Muriel and are ready to open talks with Atalanta to discuss a possible deal. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side want around €15m for the 31-year-old, an accessible price for the Premier League side.

Juventus are also looking for a new centre forward but their primary target is still Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, so Newcastle could work fast and overtake the Bianconeri in the race to secure Muriel’s signature.

The Magpies have had a strong summer transfer window as they continue building their project under the new ownership of the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
