OWNIC is launching a unique take on digital collectible sports cards, which uses dynamic NFT (dNFT) technology to create a tangible link between the online and real worlds.

The OWNIC platform is based around officially licensed sports cards, which you can buy, trade and game with. A huge part of the concept is the notion that you can scout lesser known athletes early in their career, picking up their card for a low price before reaping the benefits as their careers progress. Having partnered with professional scouting and data analysis company Wyscout, OWNIC’s cards monitor the real-life achievements of footballers, both on and off the pitch. Completing certain milestones builds the Prima Power (xP) of a player’s card, which boosts its value in both monetary and gaming terms.

What are OWNIC’s dNFTs?

In contrast to static NFTs such as a work of digital art, OWNIC’s dNFTs are dynamic and their value increases as players progress in their careers. Milestones range from scoring goals and keeping clean sheets to winning team and individual awards, including the Ballon d’Or.

As your cards increase in their xP, they become stronger in the various games and utilities available on the OWNIC platform. You can read more about those by clicking here. Your cards will also be more appealing on the OWNIC Marketplace, where you can buy and sell dNFTs both on OWNIC’s platform and elsewhere.

Why is scouting important?

Scouting is one of the most appealing aspects of OWNIC’s platform for those looking to get involved. Most football fans pride themselves on being able to spot emerging talent, or telling their friends about the next potential big superstar to keep an eye out for. With OWNIC’s dNFTs, you can capitalise on your scouting skills both within the games and utilities, as well as buying and selling players.

There’s still value within the games to buying the cards of players who are already established stars, including OWNIC’s marquee signing so far, Leonardo Bonucci. However, the big names come with the higher price tags. If you can pick up a card of the next big thing on the cheap, it could be a great way to build a strong collection for a much lower cost.

When you pick up a card of a player at the beginning of their career, that card will have longer to accrue xP. Scouting new talent is a long-term strategy that could pay dividends in the future, as currently, although they can still be used in games and utilities when players retire, those cards cannot gain more xP.

What are OWNIC’s scouting games?

One of OWNIC’s main utilities is called VirtualScout. There are a number of games within this, including xP League. This is a weekly open championship that pits collectors against each other, with the winner decided by whose card gains the most xP during that week. There’s also xP Stand-Off, which is a one-on-one knockout game again based on the strength of your cards.

Perhaps the purest scouting game though is DoMino. Named after the late football agent Mino Raiola, the name of this game is making profit from trading cards. The idea is you spot talent at a young age, buy cards for a low price and sell them on when they hit the big time. This game lasts for a whole season with one winner each year, truly allowing you to put your scouting skills to the test.
