Alessandro Nesta commented on his recent meeting with Thiago Silva, his thoughts on Paolo Maldini and the defensive importance of Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori.

The Rossoneri fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat in West London last week, losing to Chelsea in a key Champions League clash. Despite their loss, Stefano Pioli’s side bounced back in their blockbuster match against Juventus on Saturday, securing a 2-0 win in style. Pioli and Milan will be hoping to carry this momentum into their return game against Chelsea this week.

Speaking to Milan TV, Nesta first discussed his recent meeting with Chelsea’s Thiago Silva.

“I hadn’t met him for a long time, we talked about everything and also about Milan. He was very close to them, also because they were the club that launched him as a great international player.”

The former defender spoke highly of his old teammate Maldini, who is now a key figure in the Rossoneri management.

“He’s doing well, come on! No no, great, I’ve always said he’s a special person, someone who never makes excuses and is never boring. A person who has a higher than average intelligence.”

He touched on Milan’s defensive stability and the importance of Kalulu and Tomori.

“Milan have shown that they press high and to do that you have to have forwards who go and close the ball forward, this is a characteristic of Milan who have won, as well as having fast centre-backs. Defenders with the legs of Tomori and Kalulu are important.”

Finally, Nesta reflected on his past memories with Milan and how special they were.

“A Roman who lived 10 years at Milan, I was better off than at home. I’ll always remain fond of them and hope to relive some nights like those of the past.”

Milan host Chelsea tomorrow at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 20.00 UK time.
