According to reports in Italy, Inter are not interested in re-signing Romelu Lukaku, who now finds himself in an awkward situation where neither the Serie A champions nor Chelsea fans want him.

The rapport between the Belgium international and most Chelsea fans has collapsed since the 28-year-old told Sky Sport Italia in December saying that he was open to returning to the Stadio Meazza, apologising for the way he left in the summer. Lukaku is struggling at Chelsea and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere della Sera, is pushing to return to San Siro in June.

However, the Serie A champions want to cut costs and can’t afford the striker’s return. Inter fans on social media are discussing whether or not to re-sign their ex-star, who scored 64 goals in 95 appearances under Antonio Conte during his two years in Milan. Inter ultras closed the door to his return in December, unveiling a banner outside the Meazza: ‘It doesn’t matter who runs away in the rain, it matters who stays in the storm. Bye Romelu,’ it read.

On the other hand, the Chelsea fanbase seems much more united ‘against’ the ex-Inter star. Most have not forgiven Lukaku for his interview in December and have highlighted his apparent lack of commitment over the last few months. The hashtag #LukakuOut has gone viral on Twitter lately and Lukaku only had seven touches in Chelsea’s last Premier League match against Crystal Palace. He was also left on the bench against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Inter’s stance on Lukaku’s return revealed

Lukaku has scored ten goals in 28 appearances with the Blues this term and coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he doesn’t know how to involve the striker in his tactics more. Surely, most of the Blues fans would not mind seeing Lukaku leave after just one more and Chelsea would consider his sale if they could only find somebody willing to pay almost as much as they invested in signing the Belgian star less than a year ago.

  1. If Inter somehow could make afford him, he should be back. Selling Dzeko ad DeVrij or even Çalhanoglu. Would be big battle between Lukaku and Vlahovic.

  2. Bringing him back would be so stupid. He would cost so much and frankly doesn’t fit our style of play anymore. He’s just not good enough to commit so much of our resources towards. We’re better off signing Scamacca or David. Rom has only himself to blame. He will never return to Inter imo and he shouldn’t. We will be better without him.

  3. I disagree. I wouldn’t sell anyone to bring him back. He’s very one dimensional and wouldn’t work well in Inzaghi’s system imo. We’re better off without him. He made his bed and will never return to Inter imo. We shouldn’t sacrifice anyone for him. We’re better off signing David or Scamacca for 1/4 to 1/3 of the price…

  4. No one forced him out.. he left for money and he got what he wanted. I much rather get Scamacca, Frattesi and Raspadori for half of that money Chelsea spent on him.
