Former Foggia and Bologna winger Igor Kolyvanov believes ‘fantastic’ Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia can ‘aim for Real Madrid.’

The Georgia international joined Napoli for just €10m this summer and has proved his worth at the Stadio Maradona with four goals and one assist in five Serie A appearances.

He was among the best players for Napoli in their 4-1 win against Liverpool last night and delivered an assist for Giovanni Simeone one minute before the break.

“If he continues like this, he will soon aim for a club like Real Madrid,” Kolyvanov told Sport24.ru as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.

“Napoli fans are already in love with him, they admire how he plays and I think he will soon reach the same popularity as Kaladze.”

The ex-Milan defender is arguable the most famous Georgian player to have played in Serie A. He collected 284 appearances with the Rossoneri, winning one Scudetto and two Champions League.

“Kvaratskhelia is a fantastic player, he is doing well in the Champions League and in Serie A,” continued Kolyvanov. “He must continue to work with the same spirit and in the future, we’ll see where he can get.”

Kolyvanov spent ten years in Italy playing for Foggia and Bologna. He scored 22 goals in 106 appearances with the Rossoneri before moving to the Stadio Dall’Ara in 1996. He netted 26 goals in 87 matches with Bologna, playing for one season with Roberto Baggio in 1997-98.

  1. @Mal DiTesta you’re correct… it’s annoying how Serie A grooms players to win trophies for other clubs in other leagues…if it continues like this, then Serie A will never be up to the levels of those other leagues

  2. If this was 1988 he would aim to win everything at Napoli, but it’s not. Well I guess we have the benchmark for what Serie A should be aiming for now.

  3. @Azzurrofan super wealthy clubs with lazy overpaid players are not the benchmark. The Napoli model with realistic salaries and a balance sheet in the black will be the benchmark of the future.

  4. ‘Aim’ for Madrid. A club that couldn’t win a European Cup for 30 years till the format was changed to give them as many chances as possible? Stick to Napoli and do something truly amazing, like Diego when winning something was difficult.

  5. Well said Milan Ric. Kvara has only been in the Serie A for 5 minutes and it’s already started – as soon as a player in Serie A shows star qualities the vultures from the big Euro clubs start circling. Really sad for Serie A but that’s why Napoli comprehensively beating a rich EPL team is a great story.

  6. As a serie a supporter it’s time for the bureaucracy and red tape to be lifted to facilitate new infrastructure
For football . Only then our clubs can challenge to compete consistently financially and on a sporting level
As of now we have to accept we maybe be stepping stones. The rolls are reversed opposed to the 80-90s
