Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says he will remember last night’s win over Liverpool ‘forever’ and thanked Luciano Spalletti, the team and the fans at the Stadio Maradona.

The Partenopei beat Liverpool 4-1 in the opening game of the Champions League Group A.

It was a memorable night for the Azzurri who shocked Liverpool from the very start, scoring three goals in the first half and missing two more big chances before the break, including a penalty kick fluffed by Victor Osimhen.

“A night that I will remember forever, I am proud to be the president of this team, masterfully leaded by Spalletti and his staff,” Napoli president De Laurentiis said on Twitter after the game. “Well done to all and thanks to the Maradona crowd.”

Spalletti had lost his only previous meeting with Jurgen Klopp, but the German tactician has now lost four games from four in Naples.

The Partenopei return to the pitch on Saturday against Spezia and travel to Scotland to face Rangers next Tuesday in the second game of the Champions League group stage.

Napoli currently sit second in Serie A with 11 points, the same as Milan. The pair is two points below table leaders Atalanta.
