Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris admits Juventus star Paul Pogba will likely miss Qatar 2022 following meniscus surgery.

The France international went under the knife on Monday as the conservative therapy he had been following in August to treat a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee hadn’t worked out.

The ex-Manchester United star had opted for conservative treatment hoping to recover in time for the World Cup, but his recovery starts from scratch now, so he is likely to miss out on Qatar 2022.

“The chances to see him at the World Cup are reduced,” Lloris told reporters last night following Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Igor Tudor’s Marseille.

Roberto Rossi, the professor who performed the surgery in Turin on Monday, said that Pogba ‘had worsened his injury’ by following a conservative therapy adding that he won’t return to action before eight weeks.

Juventus boss Max Allegri said that Pogba’s participation in the World Cup is ‘not my problem’, confirming that the France international will return to action for the Old Lady in January.

  1. “Reduced” does not mean “likely.” God you guys sensationalize and go for clickbait more and more every year.

  2. Not really, it’s a tricky translation here, Lloris says literally ‘chances are compromised’ which makes more sense in French or Italian than English. So we went for reduced, but could have used ‘damaged’ as well.
