Napoli are preparing for a summer revolution with Alex Meret likely to leave along with Victor Osimhen and Fabian Ruiz, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Partenopei’s title hopes ended on Sunday following a 3-2 loss against Empoli. Luciano Spalletti is on the brink and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, several players will leave the Stadio Maradona in the summer.

Meret, who made a crucial error against the Tuscans on Sunday, will be put on the market and his contract expiring in June 2023 won’t be renewed. According to the report, Luigi Sepe is one of the candidates to become Napoli’s second-choice goalkeeper next season.

According to the report, Napoli are also preparing for the sale of Victor Osimhen, which could be worth more than €100m. The Premier League seems the most likely destination, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United interested in the Nigeria international.

Osimhen wants to play Champions League football next season, so talks with the Gunners have been put on hold at the moment. Arsenal are the club that has taken the most concrete steps to sign the 23-year-old in the summer.

Fabin Ruiz is also likely to leave as he doesn’t want to sign a contract. His current deal runs out in June 2023. The Partenopei will also listen to offers for Hirving Lozano and will part ways with Lorenzo Insigne, who has already signed with Toronto FC. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will replace the Italy international, while  Getafe’s Mathias Oliveira will become the heir to Faouzi Ghoulam.

10 thought on “Napoli prepare summer revolution: Meret out, Osimhen to join Arsenal?”
  1. Ruiz, Meret, Ghoulam, Malcuit, Insigne, Lozano – yes, no problems with them moving on

Osimhen – no. And Ospina should be resigned too.

He can have Champions League football at Napoli (provided they don’t blow it – again). Mertens needs to be retained and a core midfield of Lobotka, Anguissa and Zielinski (if he can regain some form).

Two new wingers, two new full-backs another central midfielder. It needs quality in depth – the squad was far too thin meaning that players out of form (Zielinski, Ruiz, Insigne, Lozano in particular) kept their places when they should have been dropped.

This is typical Napoli chaos again…

  2. Arsenal? Why would he go there? And it’d be hard for them to sign him as ADL plays hardball on transfers. And if they’re not in the CL, there’s almost no hope they’d get him.

Out on free transfers: Ospina, Insigne, Juan, Ghoulam, Malcuit, Mertens.
Contract up in 2023: Meret, Ruiz, Koulibaly, Zanoli, Ounas.

Mertens for another year is probably the only one worth keeping. Maybe Meret if he improves.
Ruiz needs to go, he seems to want out. Koulibaly has been great for them, but last chance to get a fee for him. Keep Zanoli, sell Ounas.
    Petegna can go.

Cragno, Milenkovic, Bremer, Berardi, Traore might be realistic targets.

  3. AdL and his family should leave first this is a reoccurring problem every year it is not coaches players its bad and greedy leader that destabilizes mentality and morale of players. A bad general loses the war and this is Napoli year in and out. Owner is happy making $$ on transfers and possible CL qualification if he was serious the players are available to win at the proper cost very simple.

  4. Osimhen to Milan once Investcorp takes over. Perfect solution for our attack. Can score, is young and knows the league. I’d even look at Fabian Ruiz to plug our hole at AMC (if we don’t get de Ketelaere).

  5. It is not easy to build depth in Serie A without spending like a top European league club.
Napoli‘s problem is depth. With a long season injuries and suspensions are a reality that top clubs must deal with and quality replacements are important to winning consistently. Losing players who want to move is unavoidable but retaining talent particularly on defense is necessary. ADL needs to add more talent, keep what he can and keep Spalletti who is a sane voice for the team. They are competetive but were outplayed by Fiorentina, tied by Roma & lost their composure vs Empoli. Without Ospina, Koulibaly and DiLorenzo the team couldn’t sustain success, but what team can when they lose 3 starters and others have seemed to checked out already. Spalletti can’t put the fire in Zelinski or Ruiz or a brain for Meret but building up this team is better than a tear down.

  6. Napoli doesn’t need to completely restructure their roster. If they had depth or were able to stay healthy they’d most likely have the Scudetto won already. Koulibaly and Osimhen both missing 10 games each is the main reason they’re not currently in 1st. Sell the players that don’t want to be there (Ruiz, Lozano) and the ones who are way over valued for their quality (Meret, Petagna). Extend the players who contribute and want to be there (Mertens, Ospina, Koulibaly). Keep Osimhen for at least 1-2 more seasons minimum. Add a ton of depth. Napoli won’t be competitive in Champions league for a few years, but if they can win the Serie A they should be able to attract enough talent to get there.

I’d say making one big signing, like Lorenzo Pellegrini, or some one who would immediately become one of the best players would lock up the Scudetto but there is no chance ADL would fork over the money.

  7. 12 goals in 23 matches = 100m? Lol… yeah, maybe according to Tuttocrap like all the other garbage that gets posted here.
