Roma legend Francesco Totti defends José Mourinho and admits he could fly to Leicester to watch Roma in the first leg of the Conference League semis on Thursday.

The legendary Giallorossi captain spoke to journalists before an eight a side football match between his team and Lazio on Monday. He talked about Roma’s campaign and denied that he had returned to the Stadio Olimpico to watch Roma because he could be offered an operative role at the club.

” I go to the stadium as a fan and nothing more. Perhaps, I could even go to Leicester,” the former No.10 said as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Giallorossi are eight points behind fourth-placed Juventus in Serie A, but can win a trophy this season, having qualified for the Conference League semis.

“We are close [to the final],” said Totti. “Hopefully, we can achieve this target.”

The 2006 Italy World Cup winner defended Mourinho (“how can you question him?”) and praised Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nicolò Zaniolo.

“I’ve always said that Pellegrini was the captain of the future. He is a nice guy and I am happy that people have understood it.

“Zaniolo must improve and, as I’ve always said, things will happen accordingly.”

Roma ended their 12-game unbeaten run in Serie A on Saturday, losing 3-1 against Inter at the Stadio Meazza. The last time they won a trophy was in 2007-08 when they lifted the Coppa Italia with Luciano Spalletti in charge.
