Napoli midfielder Jorginho believes “ourselves and Roma have narrowed the gap” on champions Juventus.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the past six years in a row, but the Italian international is confident they’ll face more of a challenge this season.

“This will be the most difficult league season for the past few years, and for that reason it’s the most exciting,” Jorginho told Gazzetta della Sport.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the past six years in a row, but the Italian international is confident they’ll face more of a challenge this season.

“This will be the most difficult league season for the past few years, and for that reason it’s the most exciting,” Jorginho told Gazzetta della Sport.

“Juventus will not be favourites the way they’ve been in the last few seasons, because ourselves and Roma have narrowed the gap, while Milan and Inter are among the bookies’ favourites.

“In short I don’t think there will be a huge gap between the leader and the others as has happened in the past. There’ll be greater balance.

“The strength of our group is remarkable, there’s a great understanding in the dressing room.

“Along with the qualities of the players we have a super Coach, [Maurizio] Sarri’s mentality has changed and improved everyone.

“I have no doubt, Napoli will come. You’ll see it and you’ll be surprised.”

Jorginho was born in Brazil but opted to play for Italy and has won two caps under Antonio Conte, but so far he hasn’t been called by CT Giampiero Ventura.

“This is a topic I’d rather not face, I don’t want to comment on it. When you realise certain things, it’s better to concentrate on your work and forget it.

“I don’t share Ventura’s choices, sometimes I don’t understand. Sometimes it seems to me that he wants to ignore the evidence, I don’t know what else to say.”
