Neymar’s world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona signalled the break-up of MSN, the most prolific front line in European football for the past three seasons, and Callejon sees it as an opportunity for Napoli.

“I’ve grown a lot at Napoli,” the winger told Corriere dello Sport.

“In footballing terms, I’ve improved so much and I must say ‘thank-you’ to those who have coached me.

“For me, Napoli has been a fantastic experience, my two girls are here too.

“I’d say I’ve had a good career here. I came from Madrid, where I hardly played, and here I’ve found the consistency that has allowed me to express myself in the best way. On a collective level, I’ve also won something.

“We’re a group that have been working together for two years, from the first day that Sarri conveyed his ideas to us, and that can go in our favour.

“Bonucci a loss for Juve? He’s a very good defender, who I rate very highly, but they have good players coming through, who can do what he did for them.

“We’re currently in a period of preparation and we want to do better than we did last season. Juventus remain the favourites because they’ve won the last six Scudetti.

Milan? They’ve signed some top players, so they’ll be another great team to face, but Inter and Roma will also be competitive.

“Napoli’s attacking trident? We have fun on the pitch, we like to play and Sarri’s tactics get the best out of us

“Allegri said I like playing hide-and-seek? I’m glad he did. I enjoy surprising defenders: coming from behind and finishing off moves, I enjoy it.

“Lorenzo [Insigne] is currently the best talent that expresses talian football. I appreciate him so much and he deserves to play for his national team.

“Dries [Mertens] can do even more. We’ve seen that he’s strong as it is, and he still has room to improve as a striker.

“Spain-Italy? I’m waiting to see if I’m going to be called up. I’d like to beat Italy and have a great World Cup.

“Champions League playoffs? I’d happily avoid Young Boys due to their artificial pitch, and Nice, who are the strongest among the teams we could face.

“Rafa Benitez? He was important, he took me to Napoli and allowed me to return to the national team.

“Sarri? He cares about even the smallest details and the less important ones. He works a lot on mentality.

“Tactically, he’s a master, he makes us play well and feel strong, and he knows how to get the best out of each individual.

“Can we become Europe’s best trident? We’ll play for that tag with Real Madrid.

“They have Cristiano Ronaldo, the best player in the world at the moment: he’s complete and he has everything.”
