The Giallorossi beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-1 in a friendly in the United States last night, with goals from Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah.

“We had some good actions as the Coach [Luciano Spalletti] wanted,” Nainggolan told Roma TV.

“In the first half we could have been 3-0 up. We definitely got a lot wrong after the rotations, but I think this was our first real test and we did quite well.

“We can and must improve, but we still have two weeks and we can and must improve.

“My condition? I feel good, I had a calf problem but I’m fine. Right now I’m trying to improve my condition so I have to play a bit more. We need to improve our physical condition to start quickly in the League.”

Miralem Pjanic has left the club to join Juventus, but Kevin Strootman is back after two years of knee problems.

“I’m very happy that he’s started to play. I can see he’s doing very well and he’ll also improve as his confidence grows. You can argue with his quality.

“Today was a friendly, but the League is another thing. We’re in pre-season, we can improve and be ready for [Champions League] qualifying.”
