Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan believes that the Giallorossi can win the Scudetto this season – ‘we have great motivation’.

The Belgian midfielder has been one of the Lupi’s main men since joining from Cagliari on a co-ownership basis, and despite falling five points behind Juventus this weekend, the 26-year-old still believes in the Scudetto.

“Can we win the title?” Nainggolan considered in an interview with Marca.

“Yes, if we’re mentally strong and focused. I believe in this project. We know that to win the Scudetto we can’t slip up.

“The prospect of winning trophies with Roma is real, we have great motivation for the season.

“[It would have helped] if we’d won that game with Juventus, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

“In theory they’re favourites, but Roma will have our say. The atmosphere here is that we want to win. Hopefully we can give them something to think about.

“I don’t know if they’ve had help [from referees] in the past, but the truth is that things always tend to go in the same direction.

“Football is difficult, for referees and for players but I think this year whoever wins will deserve it.

“Garcia? You can see his effect on the pitch, he’s a motivator.

“He keeps us all happy and focused, and he’s able to make everyone feel wanted, even the reserves because they know they’ll get their chances.”

Roma will compete in the Europa League during the second half of the season after being eliminated from the Champions League, and Nainggolan discussed their European endeavours.

“It was a very difficult group [in the Champions League].

“Up until the last game I was satisfied with what we had done. [Manchester] City and Bayern [Munich] have a higher transfer budget than ours, so it’s not a drama to have been eliminated.

“We’ve shown that Roma are strong, and can compete with the best teams.

“The Europa League? I’ve never played in this competition, but to me it seems very open.

“A lot will depends on what teams we face. If Roma continue as we have been, we can beat anyone.”
