José Mourinho’s assistant Salvatore Foti has been banned for one month following insults aimed at Roma-Cremonese referee Michael Fabbri and threats to a Grigiorossi director.

Roma were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Serie A strugglers Cremonese on Wednesday and their 2-1 loss at the Stadio Olimpico led to more harmful consequences for the Giallorossi.

The FIGC has confirmed a one-month suspension for Mourinho’s assistant Foti who insulted the referee inside the tunnel using swear words and blasphemous phrases and threatened Cremonese directors and reserves.

Fitness coach Stefano Rapetti was also banned for one month.

Foti, a former Sampdoria striker, joined Mourinho’s staff in January 2022 replacing Joao Sacramento.

Roma have won four games with Foti on the bench when the former striker replaced the suspended Mourinho.

The Giallorossi are in the race for a top-four finish this season and are one point below Milan, Atalanta and their city rivals Lazio.

On Saturday, they face Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico.
