Jose Mourinho will have to wait until the summer to get his dream move for Granit Xhaka at Roma, as the midfielder won’t leave Arsenal in January.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have decided Xhaka will not be released mid-season.

He had already been pushing hard for a deal with Roma last summer, when Mourinho first took the Giallorossi job, but after weeks of negotiations, the talks broke down.

There had been a revival of the conversations this month, but once again it seems as if Xhaka to Roma is not going to happen.

The 29-year-old has 98 senior caps for Switzerland under his belt, but is struggling for playing time at Arsenal, with only 13 competitive appearances so far this season and no goals.

His contract with the Premier League side runs to June 2024, having only extended it in August 2021.

Nonetheless, another bid is expected at the end of the current campaign.
