According to La Repubblica newspaper, José Mourinho wants to sign Wilfried Zaha at Roma as a free agent, but Real Madrid could tempt the Portuguese coach if Carlo Ancelotti retires.

Mourinho is having a tough time at Roma after quite a good start to the season. The Giallorossi lost the derby against Lazio and collected a disappointing 1-1 draw against Sassuolo on Wednesday when the Special One urged one of his players – probably Rick Karsdorp – to leave in January.

According to La Repubblica, the first doubts about the Special One are starting to emerge at Roma and owners are still not willing to discuss a contract extension with the coach, considering that his current deal runs out in 2024.

It remains to be seen if Mourinho is interested in extending his contract at the Stadio Olimpico as the paper reports Florentino Perez could tempt Mourinho in the summer, offering him the Real Madrid job if Carlo Ancelotti leaves the club and retires.

As of today, there are no negotiations between Mourinho and Madrid, one of his former clubs.

On the contrary, the Special One is focused on Roma and is pushing to get Zaha as a free agent in June.

The England striker is a long-time target of Mourinho and even if the 29-year-old wants to stay in the Premier League, the presence of the Special One at the Stadio Olimpico could persuade him to move abroad.

Zaha’s contract with Crystal Palace runs out in the summer, so he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club in January ahead of a free transfer at the end of the season
