Roma coach Jose Mourinho said Tottenham Hotspur ‘already had a good coach’ when he was asked about the appointment of former Inter and Juventus tactician Antonio Conte.

Spurs replaced Jose Mourinho with Portuguese compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo over the summer, but he only lasted 10 games in the Premier League.

Nuno was sacked on Monday, the day after a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, and the Lilywhites acted swiftly to appoint the former Italy CT.

Conte has been brought in to succeed the former Wolverhampton Wanderers coach and Mourinho was asked to comment the change at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“He’s a good coach,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia about Conte. “But Nuno Espirito Santo is also a very good coach, who has done well for four or five years at Wolves.

“I can’t say Tottenham have a good coach now, they had one before as well. They have him now, but they already had it.”

Mourinho has since taken over at Roma in the Italian capital and had a flying start to 2021-22 with the Giallorossi.

But the former Inter coach is going through a difficult period and hopes to bounce back from the embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt when the Norwegians visit the Olimpico on Thursday night.
