Reports on Saturday afternoon suggest that Roma coach Jose Mourinho could face a suspension for recent comments he made about referee Matteo Marcenaro in the build-up to the Giallorossi’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo last weekend.

The Special One told reporters during his pre-match press conference that he was ‘worried’ about the 31-year-old official.

“To be honest, I will say that I am worried about the referee. We had this official three times and I don’t think he has the emotional stability to work at this level,” he said.

The FIGC opened an investigation into Mourinho and his comments last Saturday, which they reportedly concluded on Monday

On Friday evening, Mourinho appeared in front of FIGC prosecutor Giuseppe Chine, where the coaches statements were reviewed in a meeting that lasted for approximately 90 minutes according to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport.

La Gazzetta write that Mourinho’s co-operation with the FIGC is an indication that he could negotiate a plea bargain if he were to be handed a suspension for his comments.

The pink paper does also suggest that the length of ban is unlikely to exceed 10 days, meaning Mourinho could hypothetically only miss one league game if the timing works in his favour.
