Roma finished the 5-2 defeat to Real Betis in eight, as coach Jose Mourinho, captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, Gianluca Mancini and Rick Karsdorp were sent off in the second half.

Jose Mourinho’s men lost heavily in Seville and between the pitch and the bench there were six sendings off in total.

Eldor Shomurodov scored his first goal in the Giallorossi shirt, when he equalised Rodri’s opener, but Nabil Fekir gave the Spanish a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Gianluca Mancini equalised for Roma after 50 minutes, but Alex Moreno restored the lead for Betis, and then the chaos erupted at the Benito Villamarin.

Cristian Tello and Roberto Gonzalez added two more for the La Liga side, but the high score was not the main focus after the match.

Mourinho lost his cool and stormed the pitch after Betis were awarded a dubious goal, as Alex Moreno seemed to use his hand when he restored the lead at 3-2.

Pellegrini was sent off for his protests to the goal and then Mourinho stormed the pitch to confront the Spanish referee, who immediately flashed the coach a red card.

Mancini and Karsdorp followed Pellegrini into the dressing room, whilst the Portuguese coach, who had clapped ironically towards the referee as he left the dugout, guided his men from the stands.
