Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva was happy with ‘an important win’ against FC Twente on Saturday.

Ciro Immobile scored after three minutes to give Lazio a narrow win in the last friendly match, as the team held onto the lead throughout the match.

Lucas Leiva spoke to Lazio Style Radio after the game and felt the win was needed and vowed to spend the next 15 days to get ready for the new championship.

“The win after two draws was important,” Leiva said. “Even if they are friendlies, we always aim to win.

“Now, let’s rest, let’s use the 15 days to get ready and start the season well. The key is the availability of the group to learn a different shape.

“It’s normal that there will be mistakes, but we had a good retreat in Auronzo and here in Germany. If we want to learn, we can do great things.”

Maurizio Sarri’s men start the campaign with an away game against Empoli on August 21.
