According to Il Corriere della Sera, Inter will be forced to sell more big players at the end of the season after seeing Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku leave last summer.

The Nerazzurri earned a crucial 1-0 win over Juventus on Sunday night, keeping their title hopes alive. They are now four points behind Milan with a game in hand.

However, their financial struggles continue and according to Il Corriere della Sera newspaper, Inter will need more ‘painful sales’ in the summer to balance the books. The Serie A giants sold Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku one year ago after winning their first Scudetto in 11 years.

‘The next transfer market may not be too different,’ wrote the paper.

‘Economic sustainability will bring to more painful sales. More than one. It will be better to get there with the Scudetto and the second star on the chest. That would remain in history more than contracts and words.’

Lautaro Martinez and Stefan de Vrij are seen as the stars who can potentially leave Inter. The striker has recently signed a contract extension until 2026, but his sale remains on the cards. De Vrij’s contract expires in June 2023 and Inter are unwilling to offer him a new deal. Both players have been linked with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.

“Right now, we must ensure economic sustainability so if that means reducing the costs, we’ll go this way, but the financial discipline must be accompanied by competitivity on the pitch,” Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello said last week.

  1. ah as soon as they beat juve the media makes sure to toss in some negativity just in case we get to confident.

  2. First let’s win 20th scudetto then sell sell sell and make midtable team like post-Mourinho era.
