Former Inter President Massimo Moratti raised some eyebrows when making a surprising revelation. ‘If I was still President, I would choose Luciano Spalletti as coach rather than Jose Mourinho.’

Moratti was at the helm from 1995 to 2013, during which time Mourinho won the Treble in 2010, putting together the Champions League, Serie A title and Coppa Italia.

Mou walked away straight after that coup in order to join Real Madrid, but given the choice now, Moratti would make a different pick.

“I will always have respect and gratitude for Mourinho, so Jose remains someone I can rely on,” Moratti told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“In terms of novelty, however, I would hire Spalletti, as I have great admiration for him and he would certainly do well with the team.

“If I was still President of Inter, I would choose Spalletti, always.”

Spalletti was on the Inter bench from 2017 to 2019, where he failed to win silverware, but did get them back into the Champions League after a period outside the Serie A top four.

The 63-year-old is currently achieving remarkable things for Napoli, leading the Serie A table and progressing to the Champions League Round of 16.

So far this season, the Partenopei have managed 18 wins, two draws and just one defeat in all competitions.

Mourinho is back in Italy with Roma, where he won the Conference League last season.
