Former President Massimo Moratti is “genuinely curious to see Antonio Conte’s Inter,” but insists Mauro Icardi is a better striker than Edin Dzeko or Romelu Lukaku.

The patron who was in charge when they won the Treble in 2010 gave his views on the current situation with new Coach Conte.

“I am genuinely curious to see Conte’s Inter. I think the quality of the Coach means he can achieve great things here,” Moratti told reporters at a sponsorship event.

The patron who was in charge when they won the Treble in 2010 gave his views on the current situation with new Coach Conte.

“I am genuinely curious to see Conte’s Inter. I think the quality of the Coach means he can achieve great things here,” Moratti told reporters at a sponsorship event.

“The fact he had a past at Juventus is irrelevant, this is a professional who was in charge of many teams, including the Nazionale. Of course, this is a big test, because it’s not easy to be the Coach of Inter.”

He seems to be dismantling the team in order to bring in forwards suited to his game, specifically ruling out Icardi in favour of Roma’s Dzeko and Manchester United centre-forward Lukaku.

“Dzeko and Lukaku are very good strikers. One is very talented, the other very physical, but I still say Icardi is better than both of them.

“The Icardi issue is more complicated and delicate than anything I had to deal with during my time in charge. I am not interested in his social media behaviour, as I only judged players on their behaviour in training and on the pitch.

“If he should end up at Juventus, then the Bianconeri would become a super squad. Juve start out the season as Scudetto favourites, followed by Napoli and Inter, but the Nerazzurri have created an incredible defence: Samir Handanovic, Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Diego Godin represent excellence for the Champions League, too.

“Godin is a leader and Inter now have the strongest defence in Serie A.”
