What of transfer reports surrounding talented youngsters Romagnoli and Donnarumma, above all from Chelsea?

“They have already proved that they are tied to the Rossoneri colours. Transfer gossip is part of the job. Mattia De Sciglio needed faith and he’s had that here from the first day. He has a strong sense of belonging to Milan and is an excellent player for our squad.”

Niang has been a surprisingly important cog in the Milan machine this season, so is he finally maturing?

“I wanted to get to know him this summer before passing judgment. The antics of some players make more noise than others. Niang is very young and can improve in every area, but he is working to become a champion. He needs to score more goals, though, and is working on his aerial ability.

“All experiences help people to grow. For example, last year’s experiences helped me a great deal, as I learned some valuable lessons.

“Carlos Bacca is well settled into the squad and guarantees many goals. I appreciated the participation he showed in the game, even from the bench.

“Gianluca Lapadula did very well on Sunday against Chievo. He hasn’t scored yet, but as soon as he does, he’ll break through psychologically as well and start a run. His moment will come and he’ll prove he can score in Serie A.”

There are more young talents breaking through at San Siro, as 18-year-old Manuel Locatelli is filling in admirably for Riccardo Montolivo.

“He had a good performance on Sunday. He is so young and was under the spotlight for a week, but he played the way I asked him too and was wise not to make any more errors after the yellow card.

“This team is only at the beginning, so there is a big margin for improvement. If you have this many young players, the side is destined to get stronger over time.

“I’d like there to be a few more headlines on these lads, as they deserve greater praise.”
