Poland international Arek Milik spoke about the exclusion from the squad and the difficult farewell with Napoli. ‘It was not pleasant, I don’t wish it on anyone’.

Milik joined Olympique Marseille on loan in January, before moving to the Stade Velodrome on a permanent deal in August.

The striker was linked with moves to Roma and Juventus, but the Azzurri blocked the moves and Milik felt the club didn’t treat him well.

He never reached an agreement over a new deal with Napoli patron Aurelio De Laurentiis and was excluded from the list of players registered to play in Serie A and Europe.

He joined Marseille on loan to kickstart his career and fight for a place at EURO 2020 and remained at the Ligue 1 side beyond the summer.

Milik spoke about the move to France and said he doesn’t wish anyone has to go through what he experienced at Napoli.

“After I moved to OM, I started playing regularly,” Milik told Przeglad Sportowy. “It’s well known that the end of my experience at Napoli was not pleasant.

“I don’t not with any player to find himself in such a situation, as to not be able to participate in the matches.

“Marseille was the place where I could move before the European Championship. It wasn’t just that though, I wanted to start playing football again.

“It’s nice to have done it and to have arrived in a great club. This is a great place to play, I can’t ask for more.”

Milik revealed he has a great relationship with Marseille star Dimitri Payet, a similar feeling he had when playing with Dries Mertens at the Partenopei.

“It’s good because we are close on the pitch, I feel great with him [Payet],” Milik added. “In the past, I found myself well, above all, with Mertens at Napoli.”

4 thought on “Milik about Napoli farewell: ‘I don’t wish it on anyone’”
  1. Napoli stuck with him trough two injuries. Then he held out while the team tried to find him a team. No pity for him. He showed his true colors.

  2. Can’t believe he discusses this with no context. He was damaged goods from day 1 and was paid handsomely for two years where he barely played. I remember how much Napoli depended on him as their #1 striker and he let them down time after time. Certainly not his fault and injuries are part of the game but for him to come around and say the team treated him bad is rich.
