Milan have officially extended their contract with midfielder Tommaso Pobega until June 2027 and he could become the heir to Franck Kessie after missing out on Renato Sanches.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Milan youth academy and has been sent out on several loan spells to Ternana, Pordenone, Spezia and last season Torino.

His current deal was due to expire in June 2025, but he put pen to paper today on an improved deal.

It was assumed he would be loaned out again, but the failure to capture Renato Sanches from LOSC could change those plans.

Instead, Renato Sanches completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain yesterday and another alternative, Carney Chukwuemeka, moved from Aston Villa to Chelsea.

With options now limited and the funds spent largely on Charles De Ketelaere, Milan could be tempted to turn Pobega into their heir for Kessie.

Last season he contributed four goals and three assists in 33 Serie A appearances for Torino.

  1. It’s always nice to see our own home grown kids finally have the chance in the senior team.
    Good Luck Pobega!

  2. Pobega should have been the answer all along. Hopefully, the new contract is a sign that they’ll give him a fair shot at earning playing time.

  3. Might as well. He didn’t impress in the first two friendlies and looked confused, then got injured, but he deserves a chance anyway. He’s at least miles better than Bakayoko for sure, and a youth product.

Kessié is irreplaceable though. Our biggest challenge this season is our midfield and if we can perform at the same level without him.

  4. Great news about the contract. If the rest has any truth to it, I would be delighted. Watching him at Torino last season, he was very impressive at times and could be just the CM we need to replace at least some of what Kessie could do. Yet another young, hungry member of this Milan side who will hopefully show us that neither Sanches nor Kessie will be missed.

  5. Good news but hate how young Italians are seen as a last resort, this mentally really has to stop, wish Pobega well and hope it works out for the lad

  6. Honestly one thing is to play at Torino (which btw sucks big time) and another to the Campioni Di Italia. As a squad player I think Pobega is a good idea, but as a starter never in the life. He is just average at best and he is so far from Kessie that it is not even funny…. and Kessie is not the reincarnation of Vieira or something like that…

  7. I think we have a replacement for kessie already, Tonali! Pobega can be a squad player, and I’m sure he’ll be given plenty of time to play. Plus we have Adli that can play in CM too.
