Stefano Pioli admits Milan ‘must improve’ but has spotted Inter‘s weak points: ‘They have, like any other team.’

The Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri meet in a Supercoppa derby in Riyad tomorrow. It’s a classic season meeting between the last Scudetto and Coppa Italia winners.

“We play for a trophy, we face our rivals and we’ll need a great performance,” Pioli said at a press conference.

“It’s an important game, we can win another trophy which would give continuity to our path. We know we have to raise the bar.”

The Rossoneri picked up two consecutive draws in Serie A and faced Coppa Italia elimination against Torino last week, losing 1-0 at home.

“What happened in Serie A counts nothing, tomorrow is another game,” noted Pioli.

“The season doesn’t end tomorrow anyway, I think that what gravitates around Milan is always exaggerated, in a good or bad way.

“Inter are a strong team and they’ve always created trouble for us, but we have our plan. Like every team, they have weak points, but I will not reveal them,” he said smiling.

The Italian tactician doesn’t believe the Rossoneri have a mentality problem but urged his players to raise their quality in games to get better results.

“How can such a young team not be starving for more victories? We can only do one thing: have more quality, without that it’s hard to win games, it’s not about being satisfied with what we’ve won.

“We are conceding too many goals, we must defend as a unit again, we’ve made too many mistakes and we must improve.

“I’ve learned more from negative experiences. I don’t think this is a tough moment for Milan, we’ll play for a trophy and obviously winning or losing makes a lot of difference.”

The Rossoneri are nine points below table leaders Napoli in Serie A and got away with a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Via Del Mare on Saturday, recovering from two goals down in the second half.

They have won 11 games out of 18 in Serie A this season, scoring 35 goals and conceding 15. Their next Serie A match is against Lazio on Tuesday, January 24.
