Milan go into the New Year just two points behind Serie A’s Champions League places and as Supercoppa winners after beating Juventus in Doha, with their progress this season underpinned by Vincenzo Montella’s faith in youth.

“I’m still young, but seeing Donnarumma and Locatelli, who are six-seven years younger than me, wow…

“Donnarumma has been great and continues to maintain a balance so that he doesn’t lose his way.

“Locatelli, for someone who’s 18 years old, is doing very well. We’re sorry for Calabria, who is out for three months, but I put him in too.

“Now we’re a nice group of young Italians, and there aren’t only Italians. It’s something very beautiful and special, more so when looking at other teams.

“With lads of this age, Milan are all set for the next 15 years, maybe even longer. Now we want to qualify for the Champions League.”
