Milan have reportedly chosen Malick Thiaw as their new defender, going all-in for the Schalke 04 talent rather than Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea or Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga.

The Rossoneri have been looking for a centre-back all summer, preferably one with versatility to take other roles and be prepared to sit on the bench while not being their first choice.

Chalobah had been close on loan with an option to buy, but Sky Sport Italia claim Chelsea have changed their minds and are now keeping the defender, who was also linked with Inter.

Tottenham are not eager to let Tanganga go without a promise to make the move permanent.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan have now decided to go all in for Thiaw.

The German with Finnish citizenship just turned 21 earlier this month and has eight caps with two goals for Germany at Under-21 level.

Thiaw can play as a centre-back, right-back or even a defensive midfielder.

His contract at Schalke only runs to June 2024 and it’s reported a deal could be done for €6m including add-ons by Monday.
