Lazio President Claudio Lotito claims he pulled out of talks for Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon because ‘he’s injured’ as the player heads towards Atletico Madrid instead.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia report this afternoon that Reguilon is on the verge of a transfer to Atletico Madrid.

In turn, the Spaniards will let Renan Lodi join Nottingham Forest.

Lazio had been in advanced talks with Spurs for Reguilon and also linked with Atletico Madrid man Lodi, as coach Maurizio Sarri wanted a left-back.

However, Lotito told Il Messaggero newspaper why the idea had been abandoned.

“I am not going to sign a left-back who is injured, will be out of action for a month and a half, especially with the break for the World Cup coming up as well.

“We have four full-backs and Stefan Radu is left-footed.”

Reguilon has been out of action since April 30 with a groin strain and did not take part in any of the pre-season matches.

Antonio Conte does not consider the Spaniard part of his plans with Ryan Sessegnon and former Inter star Ivan Perisic already at his disposal.

The 25-year-old has six senior caps for Spain and had also been linked with a possible move to Atalanta this summer.
