Reports in France claim Roma centre-back Philippe Mexes has agreed to join Milan at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in June and has stalled on committing to Roma despite indications from Rosella Sensi that an offer is on the table.

This morning's L'Equipe understands that Mexes' agent Olivier Jouanneaux was scheduled to meet Sensi at the start of 2011 but their appointment never took place.

Despite the denials of Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani, it's thought that there is a verbal agreement with the player to leave Roma after seven years in the capital.

Milan are keen to rejuvenate their defence amid mounting speculation that Alessandro Nesta might retire.

L'Equipe feels Mexes is inclined to join Milan in an effort to win the Scudetto and possibly the Champions League.

He is also keen to play regularly at the highest level in order to keep his starting position in the France national team.

Mexes isn't the only player at Roma whose contract is due to expire.

Simone Perrotta and Marco Cassetti could also walk away for free in the summer.
