Philippe Mexes has asked Milan for patience in order to rediscover his top form after starting a game for the first time since April 3.

“Training can never replace games,” the centre-back admitted. “I’ve been waiting eight months for this moment.

“I was delighted to start the match. I have to thank the doctors and the medics who have helped me over these months.

“It wasn’t easy, it was a long journey and I’m happy that I have finally come out of the tunnel. Let’s hope the future is kind.”

Having returned to action, the former Auxerre man is now wanting to make a contribution to the Rossonero cause.

“I now need to familiarise myself with the team,” he added. “I’m working hard to give my contribution.

“I just need time now to have the confidence to help this team out.”
