Lazio captain Stefano Mauri believes his side deserved to beat Roma in Sunday’s Derby della Capitale.

The Biancocelesti raced into a two-goal lead, before a double from Francesco Totti drew their city rivals level, and the Aquile captain believes his side should have seen the game out.

“Against the Giallorossi we certainly deserved to win,” Mauri lamented as he spoke to Tikitaka.

“It’s disappointing that we dropped points against Roma and Inter.

“In the first half we played at our best, and got two goals. It’s not easy to keep the same pace for ninety minutes.

“We made mistakes in Milan too, we couldn’t close out the game. But against Roma we played, even though psychologically it wasn’t easy.

“The team wants to aim for the Champions League. We’re there [in third place], there are a lot of games to go, but we want to stay there.”

The 35-year-old also discussed the recent form of Felipe Anderson, which has seen the young Brazilian manage five goals and five assists in his last five appearances.

“I was saying this last year too, I saw him in training and I think he has great ability, he just needed to feel the confidence of the Coach.

“At first he was nice to watch, but did little of substance, now he’s understood what really matters and is showing his quality.”
