Alessandro Matri trolled a Milan fan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Twitter while commenting on the the Sanremo Music Festival.

The former Juventus and Milan striker shared an appreciation message for Elisa, asking: ‘Is she really competing with the others?’ triggering a reply from a Milan fan.

“Well, Ibrahimovic plays in the same league you used to play in,” he said.

Matri wasted no time and replied promptly: “Imagine he even lost a Scudetto against me.”

The former striker referred to the 2011-12 campaign when Antonio Conte’s Juventus won the first Serie A title after the Calciopoli era.

Massimiliano Allegri was in charge of Milan and Ibrahimovic was one of the Rossoneri stars.

The Swede left San Siro at the end of the season, joining PSG with Thiago Silva.

Matri scored ten goals in 31 appearances across all competitions that season. He left the Old Lady in 2013, returning to Milan where he had begun his career. He remained at the Stadio Meazza for only six months, signing with Fiorentina in January 2014.

He retired in May 2020 after the end of his contract with Sassuolo.

  1. Matri contributions to those Juve teams should not be undervalued. He was essential in the build up of play that first Conte season. He held up the ball which allowed, Marchisio and Vidal to push up and score. If I remember correctly, Matri, Vidal and Marchisio all were tied as top scorer with 10 goals.
