Inter director Beppe Marotta is excited by the Champions League semi-final against Milan, an ‘absolutely unforgettable’ event, warning the opponents must be ‘respected.’

It kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Nerazzurri are brimming with confidence after seven consecutive wins in all competition, including last week’s 2-0 first leg victory with goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The away goals rule no longer applies, so if Milan win by any two-goal margin, it goes to extra time for a place in the Final alongside either Real Madrid or Manchester City.

“Our coach is very good, he studied the match carefully, so he will know how to create the right attitude in the players,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

This is Marotta’s third Champions League semi-final in eight years, two at Juventus and one with Inter.

“This is the most important competition on the global stage, so to be here in an all-Italian semi-final, a derby within a derby, is magical and absolutely unforgettable.”

It has been said that while Milan won the Scudetto last season, Inter have far more experience throughout the squad.

“I think the team is made up of many mature players who participated in this tournament as protagonists before. The opponents are fired up and consequently we must be respectful, but also confident in our capabilities.””

President Steven Zhang is in the stands and has overseen some financial difficulties, but also a series of trophies including the Serie A title, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa.

“For everyone it is the crowning moment of a four-year era since he has been in charge. It is a dream today, we must have the right approach, be optimistic and respectful.”

The Inter team bus was stuck a few hundred yards outside the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for 20 minutes because of a combination of bad parking and overly-passionate supporters crowding around them.

“That is an experience too. There were a few public order issues, but because we had left early, we were eventually only three minutes late into the locker rooms, so it made no difference.”
