Mario Rui has discussed Napoli’s dreams of the Scudetto and how the city isn’t accurately portrayed by the hit show Gomorrah.

The Partenopei currently sit second in the Serie A table, one point behind Inter, and they could take the top spot this afternoon with a win over Simone Inzaghi’s side. Luciano Spalletti’s team have won their last four consecutive league outings and making that five today could be the difference maker in the title race this season.

Speaking to A Bola, Mario Rui first discussed how happy he currently is with Napoli.

“It is important to be able to play for such a long time in a top team like Napoli. It’s a great satisfaction, but I don’t want to stop here. I have another three and a half years on my contract, I hope I can respect it and achieve my team and personal goals.”

The 30-year-old Portuguese full back discussed Napoli as both a club and city, noting the inaccurate media portrayals and general safety.

“I came from a difficult year at Roma, where I suffered a serious injury. I was surprised when Napoli became interested. Sarri, the Napoli coach at the time, knew me. And then there were other players there that I had already played with.

“It turned out to be the best decision for me, from every point of view: consistency, the beauty of the city, the environment around the club, our fans, the team and my teammates. Many have been here for a long time.

“My children have grown up here, my family is fine, they have found stability and that’s the best you can get from your career. The city is different from how it is portrayed in ‘Gomorrah’, I live in safety, there is not all this crime. The most correct portrait is of the landscapes, the beaches and the beauty.”

Finally, Mario Rui spoke about the title race and the squad’s dreams of the Scudetto.

“The Scudetto is a dream for me and my teammates. And even more for the fans. We’re talking about a city that thrives on emotions. Everyone here remembers the titles won in Maradona’s time.

“Winning the Scudetto after Diego would be an incredible achievement. But we also want to go all the way in the Europa League. In Naples you live with a bit of pressure, but not too much. You have to live with it. We want to improve and give joy to the Napoli fans.”

The 30-year-old Mario Rui has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2071 minutes. In that time, he has provided two assists.
