Former Juventus and Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio warns Argentina that ‘karma’ is waiting for them after their mocking celebrations of the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Both of yesterday’s quarter-finals were decided on penalty shoot-outs after extra time, meaning Argentina will face Croatia in the semi-final.

La Seleccion were criticised in some quarters for their reaction to victory, openly mocking and insulting the Dutch players, particularly from Nicolas Otamendi.

“Watch out,” wrote Marchisio on Twitter.

“Whatever a man sows, that he shall reap. The law of Karma is inexorable and impossible of evasion. So said Mahatma Gandhi.”

Marchisio is in Qatar working as a pundit for Italian State television station RAI and was thoroughly unimpressed with Argentina’s antics.

So was FIFA, because an investigation has been opened into both Argentina and the Netherlands for the ugly scenes that marred the match and its aftermath.

Argentina potentially breached article 12 and 16, whereas the Dutch side was only accused of breaching article 12.

Article 12 is related to misconduct of players and officials, while 16 is for order and security at matches.

  1. The 7/9 will face no Karma but they are stuck with the CALMAAA!!! They have already tasted b success and I am sure the powers that be will sweep this aside. The league cannot afford to take another hit from a marketing and reputation stand point. It looks like the provincial club of Europe have gotten away with the math again.
